You may feel like you are alone in having unwanted hair, but you’re really not. Believe it or not, your hair problems are probably typical. There are many reasons people–both men and women– turn to electrolysis as the best way to remove hair. No matter what the specific problem area, age, gender, hair or skin type, hair color or skin color, you have plenty of company, and electrolysis can help. Every day, people just like you choose electrolysis as a permanent, safe and effective solution.

What Is Traditional Electrolysis?

Electrolysis has existed for over 130 years—originally developed in 1875 by an Ophthalmologist to remove his patients’ painful ingrown eyelashes. It has been and continues to be the only 100% permanent hair removal method for all hair colors and skin colors.

Electrolysis permanently removes unwanted hair, regardless of the cause: heredity, metabolics, hormonal imbalances, PCOS or MtF. It uses an electrical current passed through a needle inserted down the hair follicle. It is the only method approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for permanent hair removal. In contrast, FDA-approved lasers are approved for permanent hair reduction.

Traditional electrolysis is our standard electrolysis service. Using this technology, we can help individuals with hair removal for their face, underarms, bikini line, back, fingers, toes, breasts and abdomen. Together — with our trained electrologists — we can help you develop a personalized treatment plan to fit your individual needs and goals.

How Our Traditional Electrolysis Works

Electrolysis works using a medical device called an epilator. Epilators use an electric current and a thin needle to send a small current into a hair follicle opening. This current destroys the hair growth cells, and the electrologist will pluck the hair from above. Targeting the hair follicle and the hair’s root makes it fall out and never grow back.

How Long Does electrolysis Take?

There are two parts to the length of electrolysis — the number of sessions and a specific session’s length. Both of these factors can vary from person to person, depending on what area you want treated. Each session typically lasts 15 to 60 minutes.

Who Is a Candidate for Electrolysis?

Anyone looking for a permanent hair removal solution for life should consider electrolysis. Whether you just want to get rid of unwanted hair or are trying to manage an underlying condition, electrolysis can help.

We provide electrolysis hair removal services for:

Throughout women’s lives, hormones fluctuate and can cause hair to grow unexpectedly. Hormonal changes and imbalances, including PCOS, account for many problems besides unwanted hair. You may want to see an endocrinologist to get a proper diagnosis and treatment. For the hair, the solution is electrolysis.

If you are looking for a treatment to permanently remove facial hair and excess body hair as part of your gender confirmation process, electrolysis is the solution for you. It’s the key to attaining the smooth, sophisticated, hair-free look you desire. Indeed, it is the only permanent solution for hair removal approved by the FDA.

Some men just naturally have too much body hair for their own sense of style or their partner’s aesthetic taste. If you have excess neck, back, ear or beard hair, electrolysis can be a permanent solution for you. Electrolysis is also of benefit to athletes in competition, a fraction of a second can make a difference. A streamlined body can cut down on wind or water friction, provide a comfortable “feel” during athletic activity and make hygiene easier.

Have you been told that your hair type or skin tone is the reason you are not a candidate for hair removal treatment? You should speak to our professional electrologists, because not only is electrolysis safe and effective for all types of hair and skin tones, it’s also the only treatment that removes hair permanently.

Professionally performed electrolysis will safely and permanently eliminate unwanted hair from the breasts and other sensitive areas with unsurpassed results.

How to prepare for electrolysis

How to Prepare for Electrolysis

To get the best results and avoid infection, follow these pre-care instructions:

Because electrolysis is a more advanced hair removal treatment, avoid waxing, threading and plucking the treatment area. You can shave, but only up to three days before treatment, unless otherwise advised by your electrologist. There must be some hair growth visible for the electrologist to locate the hair follicle.

Keeping your skin and body hydrated can help make treatment more comfortable. It can also speed up your recovery time.

On the day of your appointment, be sure to come with clean skin. Avoid any lotion, makeup or other products that could eventually irritate the skin or interfere with the process.

Tans or sunburns can make your skin more sensitive. If your treatment area is easily visible, use sunscreen when going outside.

Aftercare Post Electrolysis

Your post-care requirements can vary depending on the area you have treated. For example, face, breast, underarm and bikini electrolysis produce the most tender areas following the procedure. In general, aid your skin’s recovery with the following tips:

To best avoid infection, maintain your hygiene routine. This also includes avoiding touching the treated area with unwashed hands, picking at scabs or itching the skin.

When we sweat, our pores open and can take in bacteria. This can cause your treatment area to become infected. For this reason, steer clear of working out, soaking in a hot tub or sitting in a sauna for at least 24 hours.

If this was your first or second treatment, it could be tempting to shave away hairs that are poking through a few days after treatment. Wait 24 to 48 hours before shaving to avoid causing ingrown hairs or possible infection.

Some swelling and redness are normal following electrolysis treatment. If it is uncomfortable, apply a cold compress to the area for up to 5 minutes at a time.
