Discover more about laser hyperpigmentation treatment and if it’s right for you by reading our FAQ section.
Hyperpigmentation is a result of excess melanin in certain areas of the skin. Melanin is responsible for coloring the skin, and when our skin absorbs a lot of UV light, it stimulates the cells that produce skin color, causing more pronounced pigmentation.
Hyperpigmentation is mainly caused by prolonged sun exposure, which is why it’s common among older individuals who’ve had years of sun exposure. However, anyone can experience hyperpigmentation. It can be caused by pregnancy, or be a side effect of some prescriptions.
Laser pigmentation treatment with the Candela GentleMax Pro is fast and easy. The laser uses light energy to target the darker pigment and break it up.
Typically, laser treatment for pigmentation is tolerable. You may experience feeling an intense snap on the skin, as reported by patients who’ve undergone similar treatments.
The pigmented areas will typically darken in the days after treatment and then begin to diminish. The process may take approximately 2-3 weeks.
Most individuals will need two to four sessions to achieve the desired results.
Sessions are recommended approximately four weeks apart.
You can return to your daily routine immediately after the treatment but may have some inflammation or redness in the area. The total recovery time can vary and may be influenced by post-treatment sun exposure.
It’s best to speak to your specialist about your individual recovery time and what you should avoid straight after the treatment.
